What the recall covers

Filed with the US regulator NHTSA on 30 July 2026 (campaign number 26V500000), the recall pulls in a wide span of model years — 2017–2023 and 2025–2026 Rebel 300 (CMX300), 2017–2023 and 2025 Rebel 500 (CMX500), and 2025 SCL500. That’s more than double an earlier March recall that covered fewer bikes.

The defect

The issue is with the screws that hold the handlebar locks to the lower fork clamp. On affected bikes, a screw may not have been tightened to specification on the assembly line. Over time it can loosen, fall out, and lodge in the gap between the steering head and the stem — which, in a worst case, could interfere with steering. That’s why it’s a safety recall rather than a minor service note.

Importantly, Honda says motorcycles produced after 22 September 2025 already had the tightening process revised and are not affected.

The fix (free)

The remedy is straightforward: a Honda dealer replaces the screw, applies threadlock, and torques it correctly — at no charge to the owner. In the US, Honda plans to notify affected owners around 21 September 2026, and VINs are searchable on NHTSA.gov.

Does it affect the India launch?

This is a US (American Honda) recall of bikes already sold there — not a recall of India-spec machines. The Rebel 300 and Rebel 500 headed to India are brand-new, locally manufactured units built well after the September 2025 process revision. So India buyers should be unaffected by this specific campaign.
